Tampons may seem daunting at first, but they're not as intimidating as old sitcoms made them out to be! This blog covers everything you need to know: from choosing the right size to using them properly.
What Size is Best for Your Flow?
Forget the myths about tampon sizes being determined by vaginal size—it's all about your flow. Sizes range from L (light) to U (ultra), with most women starting with Regular. If you're unsure, begin with Light. Experiencing leaks? Go up a size. Discomfort? Try a smaller size. Many find Regular or Super sizes best early in their cycle, switching to Light towards the end.
How to Use a Tampon:
Sit on the toilet with your knees apart.
Remove the outer wrapper from the tampon.
Hold the tampon applicator with the string hanging down.
Insert the applicator into your vagina at a slight angle towards your back.
Push the inner tube all the way in to release the tampon.
Withdraw the applicator gently, leaving the tampon securely in place.
Remember, never flush the tampon or applicator!
Choosing Between Pads and Tampons:
Tampons offer flexibility for any activity, including swimming—unlike pads, which are worn externally and may feel like diapers to some. Depending on your underwear preference, tampons can be used with both full-coverage styles and thongs, whereas pads are typically suited for fuller-coverage underwear.
At the end of the day, there's no right answer! Choosing a preferred product is personal, and you should try out different menstrual products to see what you like. You can always switch it up based on your activity!
Basic Rules:
Never wear a tampon for more than 8 hours (this could lead to toxic shock syndrome!)
Dispose of used products in the trash, not the toilet.
Use one tampon at a time; never double up.
Adjust tampon position if you feel discomfort.
Tampons provide an invisible, comfortable option for many, but it's essential to find what works best for you.
